Pauline Tile Series - Checked Surface
This first Ayers Legacy Ceramics series is named for my great Aunt Pauline who grew up at the turn of the century on the same property where my studio sits today. Pauline came back to Waterbury briefly after graduating from UVM in 1926, until she fell in love with a dairy farmer and moved to Brookfield VT, where she lived until she died at 101 years old.
As we recovered from the recent flooding, we found many of Pauline’s possessions sealed in wooden crates and untouched for nearly a century. I was struck by how the flood coincidentally opened a portal into another area – that of an ambitious young woman in the 1920s.
Pauline’s life was as iconic as it was rooted, which is something that these pieces speak to. I hope they bring as much of this incredible woman’s energy and surprise into your home as they have into mine.
This wall tile is approx. 16” wide by 20” tall and hangs on a french cleat. Pick up at my Waterbury Studio or ship. Shipping fee covers sales tax, domestic shipping fees and packing.
